I'll definitely check that out, never seen that. 👍 I haven't watched Space Oddesy in ages, a lil Floyd can only make it better
It's just a clip the length of the song, But it's during that suck-ass part of the movie at the end where there were no words or anything anyway.

I'm a stoner for decades. Never heard of them. They sound like Godsmack wannabees to me, but it's not fair to judge by one tune.

They weren't they most well known band, but pioneered the early Stoner Rock/Sludge Rock sound in the early 90s. They never got huge commercially, but various members went on to form Queens of the Stone Age, Fu Manchu, Them Crooked Vultures and influenced a ton of others. Even the guys in Tool have cited them as huge influence. Josh Homme was the guitarist/songwriter for Kyuss, then formed the much more successful Queens of the Stone Age, maybe you've heard their stuff.

The Stoner Rock scene isn't very big, which is why I asked if anyone else was a fan. As far as sounding like Godsmack, they predate them by quite a bit, so if anything Godsmack sounds like Kyuss 🤣

Hell yeah "stoner" is probably a common theme in everything I listen to from the Grateful Dead to Trip Hop. I learned to play guitar in the 90's as a teenager, so I think a lot of what I listen to and play qualifies as stoner music. Haha Queens of the Stoned Age I might say is like trip rock.

I know what you mean. "Stoner Rock" as a label for the bands I'm talking about is kind of contentious as it is. Some bands don't like the term for that reason, most people hear "Stoner Rock" and could think anything from the Dead to Floyd to Zeppelin.

Some bands like the term Desert Rock or Doom or Sludge Rock or even Robot Rock. For some reason the "Stoner Rock" label stuck tho. Stoner Metal seems more appropriate.

Been playing guitar since 12 so I know how it can be trying to slap a lable on a music genre. When I say Stoner Rock I don't mean Rock music that stoners enjoy, but rather that specific genre (regardless of the stupid name)

Queens of the Stone Age. Not stoner rock. Not bad, but it is what it is. They were part of a succession of bands that were a step above one hit wonders, but completely pigeonholed in a time-frame of popularity.

Great music for stoners to listen to playlists at parties, but not true "sitting on the couch watching the cat play with something" music.

This was one of the groups from that 'era' that transcended a smidge beyond the second album

Hmmmmmm. Common theme I think.

I got a guitar at age 13 after hearing David Gilmore from Pink Floyd. This was mid 70's. I always thought Jimmy Page was sloppy, but love Zeppelin. Guitar was everything as far as my music preference.

I saw a lot of bands live from about '78-'84 - like, everyone that toured and hit Atlanta where I burbed it in High School. The Omni was a park-n-ride away. The Fox Theater (think Skynyrd live - I was there) was walking distance from another stop.

Lots of bands I worked and worked to be able to copy their songs - all by ear or tabs - can't read sheet music. But I am probably one of the only people in the world that could play the entire side one of 2112 before I learned Back in Black or Smoke on the Water...

So bands that I could easily replicate after I got good stopped impressing me- other than their ability to do something simple and make it $$$. Def Leppard is a great example.

Def Leppard is a great example.
Makes no difference to me if they're mega stars or if no one but me has discovered them. I hear something I like, and it doesn't matter who the artist is. I've never owned a Def Lepperd recording, but I play this about once a month - 'cause I dig it.

Grunge had its day and its place, the hair bands too. There was innovation everywhere.

When you look at Metallica vs Megadeth, it is the vocals that matter too. Metallica took speed metal mainstream, and I still love their early stuff better - but without them making the radio, would people outside of Texas ever have heard of Panterra? Would we eventually be Down with the Sickness if Nothing Else Mattered? :)

We had a garage band in high school. Free weed and poontang was the goal - nothing else. House parties and school battle of the bands bullshit. BUT we learned. You can play Zeppelin or Floyd all you want, as good as you can, and impress all the other aspiring bands out there - Whitesnake, Def Leppard, AC/DC got the girls to listen :)

This is the "come sit over here and let me get you moist" song...
3-4 chords for the most part, a little finger work, and vocals that aren't a stretch for anyone that can sing.
You're welcome :)

Agree to disagree I suppose. I wouldn't put those 2 bands near QotSA in terms of genre or ability, but hey to each there own. I'm not gonna get into a debate about the term "Stoner Rock" , but I'll say that Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Desert Sessions, Sleep, Electric Wizard etc, are all in a genre that gets called "Stoner Rock". Not a great name since Stoners listen to all kinds of rock, but it is what it is.
