High Dollar Seeds

I think what matters most is longevity and breeding practices. If a breeder is open about their facility, growing style, breeding practices etc. and I can see pics of the works in progress I have no problem buying their beans for a reasonable price.

If someone like Freeborne does all their growing outdoors and their bean releases are seasonal at best, and the selections have been made and re-run the next season then more crosses, etc. there is a legit reason to ask for more for that bean. That said, I was gifted a few of his beans, only one popped and it is on its third round of clones trying to find something healthy enough to grow out. Just a weak plant that I would have culled months ago except for the reputation.

You are paying for reliability and if I had purchased those beans I have no doubt that I would have been compensated for my issues by the breeder. They can't afford to do otherwise, and the good ones are usually sympathetic rather than suspicious. But if you charge $300 a pack for beans you create your own paranoia...

@BGSmith - On this forum I have learned how to grow, and gotten some keeper-class beans from several breeders, including at least one desert island strain. I think the pack is about $40 for a dozen fems for something I could have as my only smoke and be fine.

OK - this sounds like the guy going into the dispo and asking "What has the highest THC?"
It should. Because that's more or less what I was asking when I asked " Will a $250 pack of IHG seeds, for instance, guarantee a substantially more potent and better quality effect than a $50 pack of Hazeman, for instance? "

All the replies mentioning this and that and the other things are appreciated, but I suspect a very large segment of weed smokers/purchasers just want to burn weed that kicks their ass, and will pay more for a bag that will than one mild but tasty and sparkly..

That being said. let me pose a related question - what do you break out when you want to get ripped? What do you consider potent that you have grown? I find the discussion enlightening. Thanks.

I disagree and think it’s a smaller segment of weed smokers. There are a lot of smokers who like to enjoy a joint without getting so wasted they can’t do anything for an hour or two. People who want potency usually go to concentrates. IMO, those who go to dispensaries looking for the highest THC flower are inexperienced, just really don’t know what they are looking for, and just think it’s all about the THC. You’re going to have a hard time finding anything really mild in the THC department today. it’s also worth mentioning that the THC levels also depend on how well you grow it, harvesting it at just the right time, and how you dry and cure it. You aren’t going to produce flower with consistent 25% THC just because the one or two choice buds a breeder sent in tested at 25% THC.

There are also those of us who have a high tolerance who like to do everything at some level of stoned. I haven't run across any that really kick my ass. I like the "wow! I'm fucking stoned, this is cool!" feeling while doing stuff.

@BGSmith - Body chemistry means that something I smoke as a daily driver might put others on their ass, and their favorite daytime smoke might get me really high.

THAT is why the THC % on a package or even on a lab test means pretty much nothing unless you are growing hemp and it has to be low.

I like Chemdog over ChemD but like both and they herm. Don't care. all are more rank strains and I find that is where my body chemistry finds the best buzz. I like the County Line Hashplant as my desert island strain for now. I like Ethos and Irie genetics. Both breeders seem to go for the same effect that I enjoy. Their skill in selections is what you are paying for, and that is why you may or may not feel the same as the next guy about smoking the same thing.

Hazeman absolutely has perfectly good seeds for his price point. $10 a seed is my sweetspot. You can reach out to a lot of the breeder's on IG or listen to the potcast ect. My expectations in the beginning vs the realities are somewhat mixed however you have to factor in the experience and bust your ass to get top shelf results. For me studying the structures bud/branching and nodes sativa indica OG landrace flower days translate into work more or less work. I personally find everything is done around 10 weeks. Then growing in/outdoor. I'm almost done growing outside. The efforts disappointments are hard on me. I might keep my outdoor to chucking and indoors will be the stash.
