Fluffy vs. Compacted Buds

Hey, anybody ever try those lids for mason jars you use with a Foodsaver vacuum sealer?

That little accessory uses the regular lids. You pop it on over the lid (not the ring) then vacuum it. I use that for stuff I know I won't get into for a while (after cure), but also for about a week after I first jar it when I am burping it.

So back to the original question - was Mexican brick-weed better or worse before they baled it?

no question it had to be better before they processed and transported it knowing what we do now I am surprised it got any of us high

Gonna chime in here, I think everyone is on point, un molested is my preferred way for smoking, so I dry then trim then jar with bovedas, burp the first three weeks then occasionally after that, my cherry pie totally transformed into smooth goodness after doing this for 3 months or so, haven't burped in a month or so, only get opened when I grab a nug out, the bovedas are a good product for sure but back to everyone being right, it all comes down to personal preference imho

Since we have evolved into weed storage in general, I just picked these up.

I bought a set of the C-vaults when I had my first decent harvest, and I still use them for daily smoke, but they are very cost prohibitive for volume. These were 14.99 for 4 quarts, and in my experience a quart holds almost 2oz. It'll hold 2 if you have really dense bud, but I leave "head-space" in the jars.

Anyway, should be a step up from regular mason jars, for less than a small (quarter-bag) C-vault.

Agreed . I also think that the curing process will not be the same once u compact it. Stuff needs to burn off too while curing

I have been smoking my older stuff for 20 years. I just recently in the last 2 years. Should be another thread, but I am "super waisted' cause I smoked some "fluffy" flower I grew from seeds 10 years ago.
WTF has happened to this new weed? I get 1/2 way down a joint and have to put it out cause it is so harsh on the backend. Not enjoyable.
When i smoke from the "old" stock, I have to put it out 1/2 way down cause i am fuckin' high.
Only been smoking the newer strains for maybe 2 years. Big change.
Am I the only one?

Hmmm I def noticed the same thing I'm thinking it just the amount of resin that builds up in the joint w this 30 percent stuff going around lol

What kind of lighting? I think lighting and strain have a lot to do with bud density. Some get rock harder than others...

Yes agree that this a significant factor. Have observed this before and am witnessing this in action as we speak.

Does it bother anybody else when you show somebody a really nice plant, and the first thing they do is squeeze the main cola in their fist, every time?

I think just genetics plays a key role. Some are always fluffy, but I've got a couple plants that the buds are always compact as hell, even after just sitting in jars. Just like the commercial weed I used to get. I always thought commercial weed was just compressed down but apparently it could also be the genetics.

Yes! Agree . Really saw it this last harvest especially with one particular pheno.

We have no fucking idea what was used to grow street or commercial buds. We can only observe, speculate, and draw some conclusions.

I suspect that a lot of street stuff is grown with a PGR such as paclobutrazol. What some call "Hardball" nugs. If you got a zip that looks like a quarter zip and there's a bunch of small hard-as-a-diamond buds that look fused together when you break them open (like breaking off a biscotti bar), chances are it was grown with a PGR. I was disappointed to see Greenleaf Nutrients (makers of Megacrop) carrying that on their site and stating no details other than something to the effect of, "People who buy this know what it's used for nothing to say here" type BS. I digress.
There has been stuff that I know wasn't grown with PGRs that has been hard as a rock, but very different from the "hardball" nugs that I describe above. You'd notice the difference between the two right when you see it.

There was a lot better weed coming in from around the world in the late 60's and early 70's. Then progressively got worse. It was a lot easier to transport Cocaine than weed.

Yep, a literal war on weed by the US government. Fucking paraquat did a lot of damage to supply lines. That's when sinse showed up, replacing many older strains to the point they were lost.

10 year old buds cured...they are decarbed to eat naturally. No cooking required.

It takes something like 1 to 2 years and age will decarb it. I have no idea...i have never had weed last 1 year in my life..
