Storage and potency

I just noticed that a batch of dinachem i stored in the fridge with a boveda pack inside the jar has lost its potency. I mean it still gets you high but not like it did before it went into the fridge. Have you guys noticed anything like that?

I thought a fridge at +4C would be good for the storage of cannabis but it didn’t work for me for some reason.

Just noticed that the title is somewhat misleading. No info or tips on this thread just problems hahhaha.

Condensation could be a problem but i thought bovedas were supposed to be able to keep the air inside the jar at that 62% whatever the conditions were. I mean +4C is not even a condition. Lots of places see +4C when its winter. Still something got fucked up along the way. I’m not planning on storing in fridges anymore. What compelled me to doing that was this mediterrenean summer. Hard to find cool places to store.

From my understanding, Boveda packs cannot remove moisture, they can add a little to keep the H at 62% - it's more like they can store moisture. I guess you probably don't have a basement or a cellar? You could also dig a hole in the ground...

Boveda actually claims their packs work 2 ways so they say it removes moisture by absorbing when rh is higher than 62% and release it when it falls below 62%. Thats the claim at least. It takes time tho. Its not instantaneous. Takes days to stabilize when its at 64-65%. Thats been my experience when i was experimenting with it.

Well, cellars and basements are fine too but i really don’t grow that much. I’m a hobby grower and i grow for myself. So if the fridge doesn’t work for me well so be it.

I’ve kept samples for two years in a mason jar with Boveda for over two years with minimal loss of potently. Just kept the jars in a dark, cool place.
Thats the way i do it too. I guess storing in the fridge experiment thought me that the answer is no, don’t store in the fridge.

Within limits Bovedas work great, but they can't revive weed that is too dry.
Its effects are not directly to the buds it just keep the rh stable. It doesn’t dry the weed either. Well it keeps it from going moldy for a short while if you really need to. Like if you have to go out of town for a couple of days when the weed is still fairly wet like i did once. A big bucket with lots of air and many big bovedas work ok but yeah its not good for drying or moistening weed.

Fuck yeah...seed cave!

Also have done vacuum packing this year after a proper cure. Much better than sitting in just jars for the same amount of time. No degradation of the product. Hate the plastic though of vacuum bags and jars just dont seem to hold a vacuum seal for that amount of time?

You can always vacuum the jar inside the bag. Just be sure yer weed is in the zone. The bag makes it infinitely harder to peep for "problems" (mold/etc/).

Re potency: The wife and I were just talking about that very topic. Around here.....this Sugarberry Scone should be renamed Sugarberry STONE.....cus after 10 months in the jar...it's dense....has perfect moisture content... and is seriously more down and dirty on the high. Smoke a doob and you bes' get up and enjoy that slow-mo/eyes are droopin' feelin'.....or you'll be noddin' soon. Can't say every strain does this...but this one sure has.
As far as degradation....I call that a good cure. It >should< change....and good pot does it well.

but I grew up in the 70's where I believe we were always smoking weed that was well cured....

Ok...some of it...LOL. None of it was green though....so knowin what I know now I'd say it was all at least the year before's crop. The BIG difference is while it was cured...nobody tried to enhance that and most of it was far too dried out. Too many plastic bags along the way(n)
