Yes im aware that these are tester beans but it still never makes u feel better to trash a plant uve got close to 2 months of time in..
I new this b4 i took the tester beans, so dont take this as me bitching and moaning... Just to inform others...

Ive been growing indoors the past 7 years and close to 25 years outside, but this my 4th plant ive ever seen thats a legit herm/dud..
And the times it has happened, it has been only on the "FEM" beans that had done it..

Never on regs so far ...🤔

Healthy af plant, no light leaks, no chemical/salt/nute burnt tips on leaves,
Vegged 18/6 for 4 n half weeks,Flowered 12/12,
Was mature when flipped...?
Dont think it was human error,
Just the way it goes these days , i guess....

This is exactly why I quit buying feminized seeds.
The last thing I want to do is drag my heavy 5 gal pots out of the tent for ball sac inspection.
All you gotta do is miss one and your fucked.

I've been fucked and it hurts...:cry:...well you know what I mean!!

I had 2 go full-on rogue in the field this year that I caught just in time....and I didn't mark em to know WHOSE seeds they were...but other than that and the last bunch of Sundae Driver Testers I ran from H....which all hermed/seeded my tent and got tossed in the hash bags (really good hash...but...) I've never had ANY funny business in my gardens running fems in well over 20 years. None. Pounds of weed...maybe 1-2 seeds per pound on occasion...if that.

The regs I ran this Summer were the first regs I've ran since before the Millennium. Talk about dragging out/dumping out pots you've been tending/babying for months... yikes. I just can't do that shit anymore. Sounds like we all better check our shit today but good.

The issue isn't really with fems it's with the people that are breeding with plants that they know were herms or hermed in terms beginning of life but stopped doing it on the second round. It happens. Plants will throw balls in there seed grows and never do it again feom clone so people keep those plants and use em to breed with. The only way for me to know 100 percent is to check offspring from the mothers and eventually cull them.out.
Growing from regs you still have to pull the males out so that point is kinda like either way you have to cull plants. If the mother used in a reg cross is herm prone than reg offspring can still be herm. I personally would never grow weed from seed . I would run them small and fast, grab keepers and run them back as clones and than you will never have seeded bud.

And to clarify my statement above re herms and the SD testers...it could have been my Va-China tent leaking light that sent em over the edge. I was also lax in checking because...like I say...such things haven't been an issue in my world until recently. I know there's a "pluck and go" mentality now....but in the old days...anything that hermed was shitcanned instantly...and this >fun<...IME...wasn't as prevalent as it is today.

But hey...it's why we're testing...so on we go......

Nature is nature. The plant was not designed to make all female smoke for us, it was designed to make seeds and keep the line going.

Getting fucked is when they start tossing nanners in week 6 or 7 after all that time and expectation. Like he said, at this point it's like culling a male.

As far as seeds vs clones, growing for headstash it's about what you want. If you find a strain you want a lot of clone away, but it better be something you like to smoke every day and it never gets old. there's not a lot of those. Seeds give you the variety of smoke within the pack.

I haven't had any throw random balls in late flower unless something is fuked up. 99 percent of what I see are on lowers in the first week or so of flip. If they have balls at week 6 or 7 they was already there they just got missed . The 23 is gone. Already tossed. I don't keep any females that put out herm offspring either. All new genetics that are sourced outside are always a gamble.

Seeds are getting cheaper every day. I'd rather find a strain I like then buy more beans to drop at my convenience than to mom and clone and all that BS unless it's absolutely necessary. You'll find different pheno's and such, but usually if you like one there's a good chance you'll like others in the pack even if they aren't exactly the same. And if you only grow little plants it's also easier to cull a jar of weed that wasn't your preference than it is a whole crop of the same thing.

I think variety works as well as a tolerance break for keeping it enjoyable.
