Just based on his advice that I have followed I respect the opinion of Duke Diamond. He has several skunky strains from old stock but doesn't claim to have the roadkill. Other than it being a genetic trait, and possibly an upper elevation Apalacian Mountains terrior like WVa or KY, but it's also probably mnot goiing to be found in anything named skunk from that era.
The Skunk1 et.al. was floral and spicy. No funk. In the way-back on the lineage there is Afghani that may have some hidden funk, but looking through a skunk strain instead of Afghani is like trying to find one of your grandkids that look just like your grandpa - rather than looking for one of your kids to look like you.
Afghani, or the Northern Lites line which is an inbred Afghani line would be the best starting point I think.
The closest thing I've found in the last 10 or 12 years came from Soma Rock Bud A+. Korean Skunk hybrid.
Yes, the Roadkill, Catpiss and straight Skunk all are coming from the same genetics.
The cultivars I'm growing now have an Ammonia and Catpiss smell. It wreaks to the point of being "nasty".
If you have a room of this, you'd understand why people tried to breed the smell out.
There's no way to hide it.
The taste is very "sour". Not sweet and not spicy.
I'd say Skunk is a precursor to the "lemon" strains of today.
I'm definitely gonna reveg one of these.
I made some clones but not sure if I cloned the Catpiss.
I found some old pollen here so I hit the 2 stinkiest I have. Not sure if they will take. The flowers are coming on quick. Looks like between 7 and 8 week flowering period. We'll see.
