Yeah 18awg solid core wire. Lowes/home depot have thermostat wire you can get like 25 feet for like 10 bucks. Solid core is what needs to be used between strips.
Careful with the thermo wire. Should be ok for parallel rigs, but may not be rated for a high voltage series setup. The thermostat wire I've seen at my local big box stores is only rated 90V or 150V.

If you get national brand from home depot. Its rated for 300v. But you're right alot of it is rated very low. National has red and white conductors in it. With a brown outside jacket. Its 300v. But they do also sell lower rated wire too. They usually are next to each other. You gotta pay attention to which you pick up.
