I like to keep bags full of dryer lint to use as tinder. Not exactly primitive, but it's free, easy to get and will fit in the pack no problem.

Nice man, dryer lint works great. If you add some Vaseline it will act as a flame extender

I kept cotton balls coated with Petroleum jelly in a film container in Boy Scouts. Petroleum jelly and Boy Scouts in the same sentence is creepy.

I still do, also got a big bag of magnesium shavings in case I need to start one in really wet conditions. Stuff burns white hot and will dry out a pile of twigs in an instant.
