Anyone grow tomatoes indoors?*

I'm dropping tomato seeds in solo cups today. I should have started them sooner; spring is around the corner here.
I've only started them indoors twice so far. I'll update the ones I'm germinating.
These were Rutger tomatoes I started during the comp last year, the AD x AC are pictured germinating in the solo cups.

I'm a few weeks ahead of you. It got cold and I got bored... Mostly tomatoes and peppers but there's a few cukes, some comfrey and a deformed reg that is putting out shoots that I may send back to the weed tents eventually.

I tried growing peppers indoors with sunshine (window sill) and they were doing great, formed little flowers but they never became peppers.

My thought was there were no bees to pollinate the flowers.....but since found out that peppers are bi-sexual (male & female), and can self-pollinate via the wind, but mine did not.

So my concern/question is how would the tomato plants get pollinated in a grow tent?

I had 2-3 plants per cup but I started them in horticubes so there's no separating the plants later. Yesterday I plucked all but the best in each pot.

I haven't tried to flower tomatoes indoors yet, but I did do cucumbers and used a Q-tip to successfully pollinate the flowers.

The wind in a tent might be what is missing on the windowsill for pollination.

What you do is gently flick the flowers with your finger so the pollen comes off the pistil and contacts the stamen. Both peppers and tomatoes need this indoors.

Yes, that was my thought, but they were near an open window

I think there are some plants, and a lot of fruit trees that need partners to pollinate even if they are exactly the same.

Saw a guy on YouTube doing them.in a tent. I thi k he has the right idea cause he can get the twmp and humidity up real high where tomatoes like it. I notice they do well outdoors when day temps starting hitting 85.

When I was in high school I used to work in their greenhouse. There was a warm side and a cool side. Cool side had lettuce, carrots, radishes, kale, spinach, yadda yadda.

Hot side was always over 80F even in the dead of winter running the gas heaters flat out and it was basically nothing but indeterminate tomatoes, some rows of which were as much as 3 years old.

Tomatoes and peppers are like that crazy ex girlfriend; they like it HOT, baby!

Yup! it had a dead-end top but it has two sprouts coming from that three-toed-leaf node. It's out of the rotation but still warming the bench

definitely cool that you keep em. I do keep mutants myself when my situation allows it. Had some from them crazy looking buggers.

I just happened to have a tent with peppers and tomatoes in it - it was on 18/6 because that was what the timer was already set at

The more I communicate with you, the more I like you. We got a few things in common and share the same opinions and view about some shit. That’s awesome. Glad I found a Growmie, that doesn’t hate bag seed.

I can’t wait til I got more space for multiple set ups again. I always end up with way too many Hot peppers. So many in fact I ferment most of them. Turn them into fermented pepper paste for cooking.

There are so many pretentious growers out there. I can't stand it when people say you shouldn't grow seeds bag seeds or from a plant that was pollinated by a hermaphrodite in one of your grows. They act as though you are polluting the gene pool but they don't seem to understand people who grow out those seeds aren't using them for breeding projects. I couldn't care less about what other grow as long as they are enjoying it.

Shit yeah man. I know a fella who had a shit ton of seeds from a hermie. I helped him identify the donor herm. Kept a lot of seeds from the pollen recipients and as far as I know he still grows them outdoors every year. Some of its pretty good. I know the 10 I grew never went all Bruce Jenner (Caitlyn) or whatever the fuck his(her) name is
