DIY Cure Box/Humidor/Storage

I use a bedroom closet but use a mesh drying rack. Leave a bigger crack in the door at first and close it more as it dries. Stays about 75 in the closet and found about a 25 dollar dehumidifier that doesn't use a compressor and runs on a 12 volt adapter. It doesn't pull alot of moisture but about a quart every 5 days ends up about right as it is quite humid here also. Could not get it dry before but with just that little help it does good. I let a floor fan blow by the closet but not directly in and have never had any mold.

I am in the first day of my cooler experiment and will be changing the ice packs(2 frozen quart bottles) tonight and will be able to get a ball park idea on what the temp/rh range will be inside the cooler with nothing but ice. I am going to try a couple things like putting a 4 inch fan inside it with the ice. If I can't make a cooler work I might have to break out the zep and nuke a closet and see what kind of range I can get in there.

So my indoor temperature is about 71 F My humidity meter seems to be stuck at the low point I had in the winter, seeing if I can give it a kick in the ass and change the reading. So what do I do with this thing? Just hang it upside down? Trim the fan leaves off?

and get a handle on what range of RH you can hold in your curing space. Once you know that it should give you a good idea on how to attack your girls for the best dry. And unless your humidity is really low(40% <) I would take off all the fan leaves and do individual colas upside down just like H.A.F. did in Granny's wardrobe. If your humidity is borderline or high I think a lot of people wet trim and and then cut up MASSIVE buds like you got and dry em on screens with good airflow to try and avoid bud rot.

So what do I do with this thing?

I start from the bottom and snip any leaf stem I see, especially in the middle between nugs. That usually gets all of the fan leaves and some of those lower crows feet. Then I look at it from the top. If I see green I yank it. Leaves that have no frost dry really slow and will get squishy instead of crispy.

If it looks airy enough you can hang the whole thing. If not I would snip it into individual limbs or pairs of opposing limbs and re-evaluate. Last option would be getting it "jar ready" off the stems and laying it on racks.

Thank you guys. I never had any grow in this way. I I can't see the stem in some of them, the bottom one I am looking at is pretty much frosty other than the obvious leaves to trim. I may have to break some apart, the longest one is about 12 inches. I will get out the old scissors and see what it looks like after a haircut.

So, this stuff is sticky as shit. Separated the nodes of a few branches so air can get in. The big old 12" donkey dick? Sticky but, well they could have been seeds if I let the plant grow them out. Seems that darn pollen gets everywhere. Now I figure it got there well in the flower stage. Is it still usable, make concentrates from it? Trimming it up and breaking it into smaller pieces it still gums up my scissors right quick. And looking through the microscope some of it is just looks like a crystal palace. Maybe infuse it into oil for cookies?

No reason you can't smoke it. At least to see if it's good. Back in the day almost all weed had seeds.

24 hour results of my 50 Quart cooler experiment.


2 frozen quart bottles of frozen water went in yesterday at this time. When I opened the cooler up to replace the 2 bottles they were completely melted but sill pretty cool to the touch.

RH range: 27% - 50%
Temp range : 56F - 68F

I like this range and available space much better than the crisper drawer on the fridge test. I'ma go another 24hrs with just the 2 ice bottles then try introducing a fan.

I think that the temperature fluctuations are the killer. They are what causes condensation. I live in an air conditioned world so I just made my whole house 72F and went from there. With my rH in the 50's it takes incremental adjustments to get it right.

Here's my new guage for jarring that seems to be working. Under each nug there are the two leaves that are usually frosty to the tips. Not the crows feet with the longer stems, but the ones that cup the bottom of the nug. IF those dry well while hanging they are great to leafve on in the jar. With the rattling around during burping and curing time it helps protect the actual bud. If you're selling it it keeps some weight on, and some of it grinds fine and smokes well. So I am waiting until they get to that point while hanging before jarring. You can feel the squish to the weed to see if it's dry enough.

Then I have a little 220m kief screen to put any frosty stuff in when I am breaking the buds apart. When it's crispy I'll do a quick dry sift then feed it to worms.

@H.A.F. In your time cycling through your wardrobe have you noticed if your dryest plant slow down when you add a freshly cut plant to the mix? Or are the variables too broad to tell a difference and it "just does"

It can't hurt adding new plants, but this is my first time doing it and paying attention to that. I think the outside the box environmentals and what air I'm sucking through matters more really. But I'm on day 8 and the earliest - smallest one is still hanging.

For what it's worth, I have a habit of jarring too early. I am testing my theory that since my wardrobe is close to what I am looking for in a jar anyway, I am curing while it hangs with no burping.

I am thinking about leaving a limb from each plant in there for a few weeks and see the result.

I have my stable jars in the bottom of my cooler with a couple layers of towels. Above that I have a Lifoam reusable ice substitute freez pak wrapped in a small towel and wedged near the top of the cooler to control condensation.
The cold dry air is having a positive reaction with the jar contents.

This is looking like a very viable way to dry.


It rained today and if I was drying some bud in Granny's wardrobe I would probably have some issues lol.

If things dry out too quickly the chlorophyll is not converted into sugars and thats where the green hay flavor comes from. The temps being lower help to keep the terps from evaporating. If you want the best flavor and smell you must have both right on point. If you are lower than 50 % things will dry out to fast. You will save the terpenes with the lower temps, but drying too fast will lock in the hay flavor with it.

A few things I did not expect. these temp controllers aren't very accurate, temps are all over the place and humidity is in the 90s with no plants. I might be pissin up a rope. I still have a few ideas. Maybe a new lid from that foam insullation mentioned earlier. A exhaust fan blowing out of the new lid and a small dehumidifier like Lakegrow uses in the closet set off to the side on yhe little ledge. If all else fails Ill put the lid back on a go to Sams and fill it up with Chicken.

That is a bit disconcerting to hear your temps are all over the place and your RH is in the 90s wierdly. If the inkbird controller I just bought can;t do much MUCH better than that it's going back lol.
