DIY Cure Box/Humidor/Storage

thats it!, just no refrigeration, if that would fit in temp controlled fridge...And $400! They did say it was Magic though. I gues thats how you get 12 plants in there. My box is gunna b about $40.
Mine cost about $100 total if I bought the stuff new and didn't have it laying around. A cedar wardtobe for hanging clothes was the Genesis of it. I added a PVC hanger rack and a cheap AC Infinity 3-speed exhaust fan designed for an electronics cabinet. There's another little muffin fan inside that is adjustable for when I need air moving (first few days), and that's it for the device.

For smell I put a piece of wall-duct on the back covering the exhaust, and reduced it to a 4" round, then a short hose and a carbon filter setting on top.

I got a 7.0 CF chest freezer on the way. I will only be able to get a couple of plants in there at a time, and cut down to just branches. I figure I will need two different stages. One for drying and one for curing. I will make the box for drying first. This will have the 4 inch dampers and the 4 inch inline fan to keep the air dry in the box. Then I will switch to the air pump and check valves as the plants dry out. I can remove and plug the holes for the dampers and hook air lines to the check valves. The plants should be able to stay in there as long as needed. The box could even be used outside of the freezer in the cooler months. If it turns out this dosent work, Ill still have a freezer to put all of my hay weed in to make RSO!
Mind if I ask what you are planning on putting inside the "Dry" box wierdly. I'm not sure how much I trust infinity's temp and humidity controller on their T4 cloudline fan but if you have a tracking hydrometer you could see exactly what range it could keep and might be just fine.

My other thought is to run a Raxial S4 on a Inkbird temp/humidity controller mounted on the bottom of the box.

Oh and can you link what dampeners you plan on running. Thx man! (y)

The first one will ventillate a 40" x 40" tent - ask me how I know ;) Probably a waste of money and cfm.
The second one is fine, but noisy. I have that ventillating a mini-tent for seedlings/clones

This is the one I have for exhaust, top speed is only 100cfm, low is about 30cfm. I run it on low throughout the dry to keep negative pressure and the air going through the filter. Whisper quiet.

This is the other fan I have inside. I bought it for something else and it ended up there. It will put out enough wind to get air in a closed box moving around. It's fairly loud on high speed.

got a 7.0 CF chest freezer on the way.
As an experiment I placed some recently harvested (7/8) herbs I had stabilized in a jar to my igloo mini fridge turned to full LOW, the jar had a 62% bovid and a temp/RH sensor in it. The jar maintained a perfect 62% RH, but the temperature dropped to 40 inside the jar, very constant for 24 hours. This is really good for curing, but the problem is removing the jar and keeping the contents at 62%. Because when removed from such a cold environment the contents instantly absorbs all the air humidity and the herb becomes too wet at 66%+ inside the sealed jar, the bovid cant maintain 62%. I'm wondering if this effect wont be worsened by curing inside an even colder chest freezer, you will have condensation problems removing the curing container more so?

I'm thinking wood or insulated cardboard box and computer fans, but where I live I need to drop the temperature inside the dry box 15 degrees somehow.

I'm lucky that my rH hangs right around or below the 60% mark. Probably why my wardrobe-with-a-fan works. Also effects the weed I pull from the fridge. I probably lose rH that has to be replaced by the packs if anything.

The Chest freezer will be put on an independent temperature controller and allow you to make "the room" you put your drying box in any temp you want Not Given. I don't think I would go under 60F and would probably set it to 62F.

Hmmmm so I am guessing our "dry" box will be right around 18" W X 30" L X 30" H. What would be the best way to set it up?
I am thinking about mounting 3 of those 120M Controllable muffing fans in our box. 1 of them halfway up pointed at a wall and make it always on low or medium so we always have good constant indirect air flow inside the box. The 2nd Muffin fan up top on the right side on a 4" backdraft damper for our out, and our 3rd muffin fan on the bottom left side also on a 4" backdraft damper for our in. Plug our in and out fans to the temp on humidity controller that way if either value we set is hit then it will turn on both fans and it will suck in cold dry air and exhaust warm/humid air out until our setting is again met.

That's a cardboard box with a fan LOL
I'm on a tight budget, like fixed income $0. So I'm thinking I should try a box as long as it's better than my closet. It would at least help with any light. Daily I get a noon day humidity spike into the danger zone.

A fan at different speeds inside might be better at controlling those spikes

i think the temp has to be a little higher than The rH to avoid the whole dewpoint thing. Like 62 rh 65 f. maybe drop the Rh a little more just to be safe.

There are some really cheap dehumidifiers. I personally would never use a humidifier around drying weed but having something to suck it out of the air would be fine.

When i get the freezer I will play around with the box size. The inside of the freezer has a big space and then a little hump on one side. I dont think it will take a whole lot of air to drop the humidity. Probably just one fan in the box and one for exhaust. The exhaust fan would suck open the in take and blow open the exhaust damper. I may use an old duct booster fan and a piece of duct for now.

OK - I was responding to the guy with 0$ and you guys are modifying a freezer - I'm so lost I'm backing out.

I'll leave you with this. Think how much you spend on a pack of beans, then the time you spend on growing the flowers. Proper curing and storage is a wise investment. Take a few clones and spend next months seed budget on it ;)

I missed alot of what was going on in here. I was just posting stoner thoughts. I saw the wardrobe box you had put together. It was some of my inspiration in the first place. That led me to convert my tent to a drying chamber, I just dont have a room cool enough. Thats were the freezer idea came up. I am 100% on board with proper cure. I wonder how mant growers end up with off flavors but just dont realize it with not much to compare to.

It's all good. Next grow I hope to finish and dry before starting the next crop. I have some stone er ideas too, but I want to see what you all build first. I'm curious how you get the freezer adjusted to 55-60. For now I'm using a cooler and plastic ice to put my jar in and start curing
