Crawfish Trays??

So this is not really a DIY thing, hopefully it’ll help someone out.
I‘ve looked for what seems like forever to find something suitable (something sturdy and made to last) to put large (3-5, maybe even 7gal) smartpots in so the runoff did run off, lol. I stumbled across these in Walmart the other day, they sell them as ‘Crawfish Trays’-

A 5gal smartpot fits easily with about an inch all the way around, so maybe a 7gal would also work.

So I looked for Crawfish Trays on Amazon and found these-

and they’re even cheaper, I paid like $3.50 each at Wally World. The ones at WM are heavy duty, thick plastic. Hope this helps someone.

Don't you all set the pots up so they are not totally in the runoff. Allows the "salts" etc. to not accumulate in the bottom of the felt container. 1/2" or an inch off the bottom of the tray is what I do. I use ceramic "floor tiles". They will wick moisture also.

You can do it either way with success. That's pretty much why those 4ft trays have fake tile in the bottoms for that very reason.

Those work great I’m sure, but yeah $16 each is a little steep.

I use the hydrofarm green trays. They are pricey, but last. And they come in big packs, so it's not that much per item. When I used cloth pots I used a bucket grid to keep air underneath the pot.
