Yeah by banning plastic straws in America we did absolutely nothing to help pollution. Nothing. If anything it made a larger environmental impact. Paper straws. Paper comes from trees. Now we need more trees. It’s the shithole countries dumping in the ocean, ive seen it.
Same could be said for the idea to stop fracking for power productions. Go ahead and stop it, then we will just fire up the coal plants again. Ignorant people come up with these ideas and many others without looking at the consequences. This defund the police movement will be another great example.
Defunding the police is the most ignorant fucking thing I’ve ever heard. Accountability is the biggest problem. That goes from the person walking down the street all the way up the food chain to the governors. You want to end police brutality? Let’s look at criminals. I’m not talking the guy getting a speeding ticket or the guy with a bag of weed. I’m talking violent crimes. Lock them up. I’ve got a cousin that’s got I think 8 felonies and he still walking the streets. Slap on the wrist and they let him go. It’s not a lot of people. I’d say probably 1 in 5-10k people in America on average. Either build a giant prison to lock them up in or make prison so fucking miserable that they never want to go back there ever again. My time in SERE school comes to mind.... It could be done and not violate any human rights. Get the criminals off the streets and either reform them or keep them locked up. That would cut way down on police brutality. Fuck just about everyone they shoot has a long list of priors.

I don’t want to shoot anyone, if I did wether I was in the right or not I’ll get sued and it will cost a lot of money. I’d like to put some of these politicians in a room with someone that wants to kill them. If you’ve never been in a room with someone who wanted to and had the ability to kill you then you probably shouldn’t be offering any advice or making policies.
Most cops I talk to and meet are great people, I’ve been helping with training one day a week for the last few months here locally. I’m having a great time. I find most of them when shit hits the fan adrenaline surges and they lose their ability to think. That’s when bad shit happens. Only way to stop that is to train train train. Better training. Bigger budget. Most people’s encounters with police are usually on the individuals worst days. Cops got a shitty job. It’s unfortunate.
Something else that’s unfortunate is fucking chest cams.
Way to take away the officers discretion. Now he has to arrest you or ticket you. If he doesn’t he gets fired.I’m ranting

Yes, accountability is an issue. Free market competition among service providers can solve that problem.
If your customers are forced to pay you and don't have many other real alternatives to buy the service someplace else, the incentive to provide good service or lose customers isn't there.
Say if a person were the only weed dealer in town, could stomp out any competition without any liability to themselves and they got paid anyway, even when people bought weed from somebody else, how much effort are they likely to put into providing a good product?
If police, who have no obligation to actually protect people, (there's a Supreme Court decision indicating this) had competition and the customer feedback that competition brings to a given service market, they would have to give good service or lose customers to their competition.
The most accountable service providers are those who are trying to gain and keep customers in a competitive market, security ("policing") would be no different. Instead of a situation where cops "investigate themselves" (what happens now) , in a competitive market, poor service, like murdering people, would cause customers to flee and seek better alternatives.

I don't have any problem with other people being socialists, as long as they don't impose their socialism on others.
Forcing everyone in a country of 350 million people that spans a continent to all obey a government centered in Washington D.C. seems a little like a Plantation system.
I am not a Socialist, a Republican or a Democrat and would chose to live my life free of being dominated by any of them. Is that allowed in your view of how "this country" should be ?
