It's alot like the folks who scream "Drinking water should be FREE....it's a right." Yeah...sure thing. Lotsa free water in the river downstream from the refinery.....but you want it from the tap and that is just a bit different. Head to the river if you want "free". Nobody is stopping you.
Being a dummy is free too. Home skoolin by folks who never finished skool. i have a few of those folks in my own family. Poor kids were 8 and 11 and couldn't fuckin read or write a damn thing....and couldn't get in a real school at grade level. the 11 year old had to start in 2nd grade classes...but they knew where the Zoo and the museum was...and Science class was looking at the ice on the lake. and cus they're in a state that is run by fools (R's) ..there's no testin....cus.....um....who waunts the gunminrt tellun ya how tu teech yer kidz? And them buildings? Socialism. Can't have that shit where everyone pays in for the collective good.

Good point. I'd add government schools already have failed, since they rely on extortion rather than mutual exchange for their funding.
Imagine if Walmart said, "oh you can shop at other stores, but you have to pay us, whether you want us or not and even if you don't use us".
Immediately people would call bullshit on that.
Which is why government schools have "succeeded" in their true purpose, to indoctrinate people to obey authority.

I see your point and agree that religion shouldn't be forced on others, but neither should funding government schools be forced on others .
The solution is freedom of choice. It's peaceful and respects individuals.
Even when we don't share others beliefs, we shouldn't impose our beliefs on others or force people to pay for our ideas and threaten to steal their homes if they won't fund our ideas. Good ideas don't require force.

Tax free churches means I'm funding the belief in a fake God....so hey...if my kids get to go to school on yer dime and you get to play "make believe" on mine......we're even. Just so you know the Flying Spaghetti Monster isn't fake, I ate some of his flesh last night and still have the tomato sauce stains to prove it. His remains are in a Tupperware bowl in my fridge.
So you believe if you are forced to subsidize something you don't use and don't believe in, others should be forced to subsidize something they don't believe in too? Mutual dissatisfaction ? Hmmm. I'm hoping for something better.
What if people simply paid the providers of servicers when they use them and didn't pay them when they chose not to use them or used somebody else? Like we do with grocery stores. You don't advocate shopping at Super Market A, but being forced to pay Super Market B do you? Would that work for you ?

Everybody paying their own way would work fabulously here. We do it ourselves. Full self-funded retirement @ 55. (I have a small amount in SS I can tap but most of my working years/retirement contributions were outside of that system...ditto my wife) Funny how ya don't have to pay into SS when you work for Gov't's/etc. huh? Now ya see why they wanna fuck with it all the time.
Like many who have also retired.....we aren't forced to pay a whole lot of anything cus we don't have an income. and living in a Red county where nobody wants to pay for >anything<....we don't pay shit for "property taxes" either.
Ah...but I >am< forced to pay for others to 'pray". Don't do it myself...but I (and the country) pay anyway. 75 BILLION or so last year of freebies for the "Lard". Well, that's true. So it's possible when I whine about paying for something I don't want and don't use and you whine about something you don't want and don't use, we could both be right.
Neither of us should be forced to subsidize the other. If you don't like my idea in a given area, I would be wrong to force you pay for it, if you don't use it right?
So how do we stop doing that, so you get what you want and I get what I want and neither of us tries to advocate for "equal misery" ?
Who imposes the equal misery and should we stop it, then becomes the question.

I myself like the way it is now. Having my roads repaired, police protection, fire stations, schools systems, water and sewer systems, trash removal (and the list goes on and on)taken care of for me thru taxation is working just fine for me. The idea of using only what you pay for is a fantasy

That was solely about schools. What if you dropped public schools to 8 years. High school is when half the kids stop giving a shit. Make it voluntary from that point on.
The problem with taxes - with no term limits - is that they keep finding more and more ways to spend those tax dollars to get votes - and collect more taxes.

For example - what are the exorbitant taxes in NY or Cali getting those people that I don't have for much less taxes in another state? From what I see it isn't going to police or their training - which is a government responsibility (public safety)
